The Island Where Cast Away Was Filmed
Monuriki Island in Fiji's Mamanuca group was the filming location for Robert Zemeckis's Cast Away (2000), starring Tom Hanks. The island's dramatic volcanic silhouette, pristine uninhabited beach, and complete lack of development made it perfect for the film. It has changed very little since. Privately owned with managed visitor numbers, it retains exactly the wild, untouched quality that made it ideal for filming.
Visiting is a genuinely exciting experience — both for the film connection and for what it actually is: a small, dramatic volcanic island with extraordinary beaches and excellent snorkelling. Viator marks it "likely to sell out" year-round.
