Rural Fiji Untouched by Mass Tourism
The Sigatoka River Safari takes you by jet boat up the Sigatoka River β Fiji's longest river β past rice paddies, farmland, and into a region of traditional villages that have changed little in generations. It is one of the best ways to see authentic rural Fijian life outside of the resort corridor.
The Sigatoka Valley was one of Fiji's most densely populated areas in pre-colonial times. The pottery traditions here are among the oldest in the Pacific β the Sigatoka Sand Dunes at the river mouth are an archaeological site of national importance, containing pottery fragments dating back 2,600 years.
